A scammer is contacting District 5 Toastmasters members via email.
The scammer uses a fake email address appearing to belong to Alex Shadpour, our District Director, as part of the scam. If you reply, they will make some urgent request for you to purchase items (usually gift cards) and ask you to provide the information from the purchase. This is what a scammer email may look like.
DO NOT reply to scam emails if you receive them.

Hi Marianne,
I hope you’re doing well. Do you have some time for a brief discussion? Please let me know when you are available.

To protect yourself and others from falling prey to these phishing attempts and other scams, remember the following:
Verify Requests: Always confirm any request (but especially unusual requests) for personal or financial information by reaching out directly to the purported sender using their known contact details.
Be Skeptical of Urgency: Scammers often create a sense of urgency to pressure you into acting quickly. Take your time to assess the situation and ensure the request is legitimate.
Do Not Share Financial Information: Never share sensitive financial information, such as gift or credit card numbers or PINs, via email, phone calls, or text messages.
Report Suspicious Activity: If you receive a suspicious request, promptly report it to your local authorities.
Please pass along this information to your clubmates!
If you have any concerns or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Alex Shadpour at dd@d5tm.org
